Honoring Fallen SrA Daniel Miller

SrA Daniel Miller, a native of Grand Prairie, Texas, joined the Air Force in 2004. He was on his first assignment with the 775th Civil Engineer Squadron, Hill Air Force Base, Utah, and his first deployment. In Iraq, he was assigned to the 447th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron and a member of the four-person Team Lima, which successfully executed 194 missions on the outskirts of Baghdad, resulting in the safe disarming of 129 IEDs.

SrA Miller was one of three airmen on Team Lima killed by a large vehicle-borne improvised explosive device.

He was from Galesburg, Ill., the oldest of five siblings and several stepsiblings. Most of Galesburg and its surrounding small towns turned out to remember and honor their local hero.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Robin and Daniel Mahnesmith; his father and stepmother, Daniel and Shari Miller, Sr., and two brothers, Tim Miller and Anthony Mahnesmith.

On Memorial Day 2008, Hill AFB dedicated a memorial to SrA Miller and the other members of Team Lima who died with him, TSgt Timothy Weiner and SrA Elizabeth Loncki.
