This special outreach event features a free concert where bands, including OVN's very own Task Force Rock, will come together to spread the word about vital resources available to Veterans. Throughout the day, you’ll find information on support services, care options, and ways to connect for a common cause: raising awareness and taking action to prevent Veteran suicide. The band Over, Never Out was formed in an effort to raise awareness of the suicide crisis in the US military community. and raise money for organizations across America that are helping the military community to cope with the trauma and stress of service.
TFR started with four military veterans who are also musicians, they connected on LinkedIn and converged on Pittsburgh, PA from three different states.
The mission of Task Force Rock is to cobble together band members from the veteran and first responder communities to perform music for events that pay tribute to American heroes, and share the powerful healing they experienced through music.
The Nashville-based “Rob Talton Band” has a unique sound that combines elements of American Rock, soul, jazz, and the blues. The sound is big and adds elements of Latin percussion with Studio Musician/Percussionist Jimmy Lopez. The band consists of Nashville-based musicians: Mic Guy (Bass/Vocals), Rory Kennedy (Guitar/Vocals), Nick Planer (Guitar/Vocals), Tony Ortiz (Drums), Jimmy Lopez (Percussion), and Rob Talton (Keyboards/Organ/Lead Vocals).
The band draws its name from Bones Fork Creek in North Carolina out in the Fort Bragg/Camp Mackall area where the Special Forces Qualification Course takes place. Every Special Forces soldier has crossed Bones Fork Creek at night in the cold of winter and the heat of the summer. Although somewhat unique to Special Forces and those who have trained at Camp Mackall, every military member has experienced some similar training in a location that is imprinted on his or her psyche for the rest of their life.
Their song “Hold on, Reach out” is a call to action for those who might know someone struggling and maybe even a letter to someone that might be contemplating suicide. This song puts in to words and notes the amazing hearts they have for our Veterans, and to end this crisis.
