For the 3rd year in a row! We are honored to partner with the HCN Riders for their annual ride & Hog Roast! The riders have once again elected to ride this year in support of our veterans and OVN. Join us for a day to ride and enjoy an awesome hog roast after. Ride & eat or just come out and enjoy the food. This years ride will honor hometown fallen hero Marine Cpl William Cannon, who was KIA in Vitnam 20 Mar 1966. OVN Reach Out to Veterans display will be part of the event, along with Golik Motorsports #98 Veteran suicide prevention machine. EVEN if you don't ride come on out for a great lunch and also view the wall of heroes display of all of our local fallen heroes we have honored over the years. Thank you to this local church that has stepped up to "Be There for Our Veterans!"
William enlisted in the US Marine Corps on April 24 1963 in Pittsburg PA. In Vietnam he was assigned to and served with Company B, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 3d MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
During the month of March the Battalion was located in Thua Tien Province and on March 20 launched a three day operation code named OREGON in the Phong Dien District. Elements of H&S Company with supporting units, Companies A, B, and E from the 2d Battalion, 1st Marines would be heli-lifted to the line of departure with Company A landing unopposed immediately setting up defensive positions with Company B following. Moving forward to their objectives the Marines soon came under heavy enemy small arms and supporting mortar fire which developed into a day long battle. Company E joined into the same afternoon, artillery, naval gunfire and air strikes were brought to bear on the enemy positions which continued during the night and into the next day. Eight Marines were killed in the action and many were wounded another would die of his wounds, one of the casualties was Cpl William Cannon who was killed by a hostile gunshot wound.
